The Shirley Waite Poetry Award
The competition was introduced in 2021 to honour a much missed friend of the Circle who’s untimely death on 9th November 2018 shocked the local poetry world.
The committee decided at an AGM to run the competition as a celebration of poetry in Shirley’s memory in line with the National Poetry Day’s chosen theme, stipulating that a non-member local poet judge the competition each year. The committee also sanctioned that a small monetary prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places would be offered, with the winner holding the cup until the next competition.
